We often get asked by customers if they should run their hvac units when it is raining outside. The answer is, yes! Outdoor hvac equipment is designed to work even in the rain. Sometimes, our outdoor units can act as a magnet for lightning strikes, especially on older homes, but even that is rare. If a customer wants to turn off their air conditioner during a major thunderstorm, they should go right ahead and do it. Simply using the thermostat to turn it off is the best method. Just don’t forget to turn the AC back on!
